Imagine…
In uniform ready to take the field in a baseball stadium full of people. It is a full house… every seat is taken, anticipating the start to an incredible moment. All eyes and ears are awaiting me about to make my entrance. I am taking in the moment just before I stand out to the crowd. Sounds, lights, noise everywhere… chaos - a peaceful chaos. Nerves are insurmountable carrying an important role to show the world this unique moment… history in the making!
Breathe…
Looking up… it’s time to shine… taking one step slowing time to face the people gathered here together for THIS moment.
Then, it’s dark. Silent. All the power cuts out. No lights. No noise. No sound - like a cathedral on Holy Thursday, a solemn silence awaiting the arrival.
The entire city is waiting in the dark for an intense suspense - feeling eternal yet hopeful for the light. A pause in time as if the world had stopped to take a breath to prepare the hearts of the people for this incredible moment.
Light from my heart shining confidently! A small light moving and breathing like the swift breath of a candle resembling Advent Mass awaiting the coming of our King!
You can now see my face with a joyful smile! Everyone in the stadium, although surrounded by darkness, can see my light shining from far away. As I shine brightly, I pass my light to the person standing next to me. And she continues with the person next to her. Then next to him. One by one, the stadium illuminates with the brilliant candlelit faces and hearts of every person in the stadium. Everyone!
Our small light grows to a fire that is indistinguishable from a flame burning brightly despite the darkness. You can see this flame from ANYWHERE in the city!

What was chaos turned to brightness from the love of our hearts shared with one another for all people.
Our love is blinded by the chaos and is strengthened with our community. Even if started by just one person. Be the one person to love anyway. Love God and Love others.
The incredible moment is not the stage, but how we love each other. When we come together in the brightness of our love, we stand firm for the good of all people. And when our flame is dimmed, we are brightened by the love of others around us so that no darkness, no matter how heavy, can suppress the power of our strength in unity by God’s grace!
